Collection: Immunity

The immune system is our natural defence against diseases and any other unwanted visitors. If you find yourself getting sick often, it may be because you have a weakened immune system. There are a number of factors that contribute to the strength of your immune system including genetics, diet, and lifestyle. While we can’t really do anything about genetics, here at Khan Nutrition we have a range of products that will supplement your diet and help support your immune system:

  • Vitamin A - contributes to the normal development and function of the immune system. It is converted in our bodies into retinoic acid (RA) which is the more active form, and is vital in many processes and cells in the immune system(1). Foods such as sweet potatoes, leafy green vegetables, and bell peppers are excellent sources of vitamin A. You can also supplement your diet with vitamin A containing products such our Multivitamin below
  • Vitamin C - contributes to the normal function of the immune system. It is considered to be one of the biggest immune boosters amongst the vitamins, as it plays an important role in a multitude of functions in the immune system(2). Good sources of vitamin C include foods such as oranges, kale, strawberries, and broccoli. You can also take vitamin C containing supplements such as our Multivitamin below to help ensure you meet your daily requirements.
  • Vitamin D - contributes to the normal function of the immune system. It plays many vital functions in the immune system and receptors for vitamin D can be found on the surface of white blood cells. Low levels of vitamin D have been associated with an increased risk of infections, and also an increased risk of autoimmune diseases (such as diabetes), both of which indicate poor immune function(3). We make most of our vitamin D from exposure to sunlight, however in the UK some people may be at risk of deficiency. Public Health England recommend that everyone considers taking vitamin D supplements during winter months, and those at risk take them all year round. To see if you’re at risk of deficiency, click here. Our vitamin D supplements and Multivitamins below contain at least 100% of the daily recommended allowance of vitamin D.
  • Vitamins B6, B9, B12 - contribute to the normal function of the immune system. Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) has been found to affect the function of important parts of the immune response, such as a protein called interleukin-2(4). Low levels of B9 (folic acid) and B12 (Cobalamin) have been shown to drastically impact the immune response, as they are essential for the basic function of immune cells(5). These vitamins can be found in foods such as milk, eggs, and whole grain foods. You can also supplement your diet with products such as our Multivitamins or Vitamin B Complex below, which contain 100% of the recommended daily allowance ensuring you can cover all bases.
  • Iron - contributes to normal function of the immune system. It is important in the basic function of many blood cells, including those involved in the immune system. Having an iron deficiency therefore affects the ability of your immune cells to respond to infection properly. Iron can be found in foods such as meat, beans, nuts, liver, and most green leafy vegetables. You can also supplement your diet with iron containing products such as our Multivitamin below.
